Video is Becoming Essential for Tourist Industry Marketing
Cisco Systems predicts that video will account for 90 percentof internet traffic within three years. Even now, 51 percent of web traffic is video and 48 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute. Video is becoming too big to ignore.
It is hardly surprising that we are watching more and more online video. If blogs are the magazines of the web, then videos are its television. We spend hours a day watching TV so why wouldn’t we do the same online. The Millenial Generation, those born after about 1980, consume online videos more than anyone else. They are the future of the tourist industry!
Video is now an essential part of the social media and online marketing mix. We are not talking about long promotional videos: People have short attention spans online and a five-minute video rarely gets watched to the end. Rather than produce one big long promo video, go for several shorter clips, no longer than 90 seconds. More people will view them and they generate more likes, shares and links.
Every tourist business, from hotels to attractions, needs a YouTube Channel. For a quality Canarian example, look at the Lanzarote Sands Beach YouTube page. Most of their videos are short and not all of them are pure promotion. They have mixed up local events with videos highlighting their hotel.
