THE MILLENIALS HAVE LANDEDThe Millenials, also known as Generation Y, are starting to get jobs, earn money, and come on holiday. They will soon be the largest consumer group in history. Their outlook and expectations will shape Canary Island tourist industry for the next 20 years.

Millenials, all born after 1983, are the first genuinely technology-friendly generation. They grew up with computers and mobile phones, email and social media. They expect information to be available instantly via their mobile devices, and don’t react kindly to WiFi blackspots and poor quality websites.

Millenials expect their information to come in short, engaging bursts, rather than in large chunks. Targeted, visually exciting content captures and maintains their interest more than large blocks of text or long videos.

Millenials hang around on Facebook and Twitter: They trust recommendations from social media friends and the crowd, rather than guidebooks and websites. The also complain on social media sites rather than at the reception desk!

To Millenials, television is becoming that their parents watch because they don’t understand streaming and YouTube. Even desktop computers seem old fashioned to a generation that grew up sending messages with their thumbs. If your website doesn’t work on mobile devices, then the Millenials won’t even know you exist.

To help the Millenials find your content on-line, make sure your website loads quickly, and is compatible with mobile devices. Millenials are highly visual: Make sure your website, blog, and social media platform contain short videos and plenty of images. Regular updates of fresh content keep your site high in the rankings, and keep Millenials coming back.

Millenials love attention, and need to be engaged to stay interested. They don’t just appreciate interaction, they expect it as standard! Millenials are also very aware of on-line etiquette, and good at separating corporate messages from genuine personal engagement. Never ignore them on social media networks. Answer their questions, respond to their comments and thank them for contributions. Otherwise they will ignore you, and your business, back.
